History
During the American Civil War when coffee was scarce, the citizens of New Orleans used chicory as a substitute. Today, they enjoy their coffee with chicory, which is mixed with a quantity of strong black coffee and hot, rich milk.
Also during the American Civil War, the Union soldiers were issued eight pounds of ground roasted coffee as part of their personal ration of one hundred pounds of food. And they had another choice: ten pounds of green coffee beans.
We invite you to join us for your favorite coffee drink at our coffee bar.
Symbolism
Everything on the flag symbolizes attitude and resolve in American history. The 13 stripes (seven red and six white) are for the original 13 colonies and the 50 stars represent all the states in the United States of America. The colors in the flag also mean something. Red is for Valor and Hardiness; white is for Innocence and Purity; and blue is for Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice

Petr Zimola continues his travels (from the Czech Republic to New York - then journeying on a bicycle since New York). Since we met Petr in Seligman in October, he has continued on his journey to the West Coast and then headed southward. His latest update was sent from El Salvador as he continues to cycle and share his enthusiasm with us. The photo is of Petr overlooking an active volcano in Guatemala. In December as we travelled through Guatemala, we were two to three days ahead of Petr and enjoyed his perspective on locations that we visited ahead of him. Prospero Año Nuevo.

We often are asked if it snows in Seligman. Here is a photo taken December 11th. 2009. Seligman received up to two feet of snow in the surrounding mountains. We welcome the precipitation. The result of this will be a spectacular Spring. We always welcome any form of precipitation. Soon Seligman will turn from the snowy white to a variety of colors when wildflowers begin to bloom this Spring.

An accomplished musician, a professional photographer, a great friend - That is Yasuhiko, from Tokyo, Japan. We have had the pleasure of visiting with Yasuhiko on his yearly visit to the United States. He has shared with us some of his spectacular photography from Route 66 and the Western States.
Just when we thought Yasuhiko's talent was limited to photography, we heard his musical abilities as "Gomente" on You Tube:

For a real treat, click on the link and listen to his music.
We look forward to seeing Yasuhiko's smiling face again on Route 66.

あけましておめでとう。

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognized symbols of American freedom anywhere. Standing tall on Liberty Island in the middle of the Hudson River in New York City Harbor, the Statue of Liberty was given to the U. S. by the French in 1886. The French gave the Statue of Liberty, or Statue de la Liberté, to the United States as a token of friendship.
Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, creator of the Eiffel Tower, designed the interior structure, while Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was the sculptor. Made of copper, the statue depicts Lady Liberty standing tall with the torch of freedom raised with her right arm.
Thanks to many of our French visitors on Route 66 this past year.

We continue to monitor the Seligman watch for Bigfoot. Right around the corner is D.N.A. evidence from samples taken in Seligman that will "shock the world" according to Tom Biscardi, the Great Bigfoot Hunter.
